“There was no
doubt in my mind that I could have her. She smiled innocently at me, her blue
eyes bright, like reflecting pools ready to be explored. I found myself
wondering if she had ever experienced the delights I could bring. I wondered if
her soft blond curls had ever been clenched in the fist of hunger.
It would only
take a little influence, a little energy directed at her, a little attention,
and she would be well into my trap.
A chill slowly
ran down my back, acutely aware suddenly I turned looking for the predator that
lurked near, a vampire with cunning, skill and prowess had just breathed out its
energy letting me know it was present, and on the hunt. , perhaps hunting the
same fertile ground as I.
Redirecting my
attention to the girl, I hurried a little to press forward with my own sensual
energy, than stopped cold as those deep blue eyes sent a spike of warning in my
direction. “Don’t even think it.”
Her look seemed
to say and with a frown, I realized where my predatory sense had come from. The
Innocent girl before me was hunting, and I had nearly been foolish enough to
fall for her trap.”
Energy, we talk about it a lot in
the vampire community. We talk about the different ways we get it, how we use
it, how it influences us, the subjects about energy go on and on. Yet it is a
board term. One that is not easily defined in the one catches all phrases, but
something we simply cannot afford to ignore.
Learning to project energy is a
skill that, like many others in the community comes from time and practice, but
it is something we can learn to employ, and employ with wonderful results. The
first thing to remember about energy is that amount of energy is not directly
equal to the strength of the energy. One can easily have a huge reserve of
energy, but so little control as to able to use only a limited amount of it in
their skills.
I was once asked in a club setting
who was the most powerful vampire in the room. I reached out with my energy and
felt those around, their aura, their disposition, and their mood and found a
young girl who was practically over flowing with energy. Assured I was correct,
I pointed her out. I was informed I was not only wrong, but I had it exactly
opposite.
The one who had the most energy in
the room was by in large in the shadows. She was chatting quietly with some
others and seemed very much like a quiet but confident little thing. Her energy
was hardly noticeable.
It took me some time to figure out
that the reason she was the most potent vampire in the room was not because of
the strength or amount of her energy, but because of her control over the energy
she possessed. With little precisely focused wisps of energy, she easily altered
the mood of those around her; she influenced people, even re-directed energy
probes like mine with out missing a beat.
What she had learned and I have
since learned was that we are all made up of various types of energy. Every
aspect of our nature produces its own energy frequency that combined make up our
Aura. The Aura is like an over all tone in our energies choir, reflecting them
all, but showing most brightly in those aspects that touch us individually the
greatest.
When we learn to alter or project
our energy, we must first understand how strong or viable that energy is with in
us. It is nearly impossible for one to maintain a projected energy signature if
that energy type with in them is limited.
It would be hard for me to maintain
an air of ignorant self-depreciation for long periods; it simply is not one of
the stronger energy frequencies that make up my whole. To attempt to do so would
make it very easy for another to see through the projected glamour, or influence
others in a manner that simply does not flow with our own natural disposition.
We must identify the energy we need
to use, the mood, the way we want to draw effect and ensure it is enough of who
we are to be maintained. While I typically am a little more scholarly than I am
charming, I can use my own energy, the aspect of it that I know is strong to
press forward the energy I wish to present. I can alter the fundamental ways I
am perceived by allowing those aspects to come forward from my own personality,
and shoring them up with the energy I possess.
In the case of my example story,
the girl had a strong air of innocents about her to begin with; she projected
the energy she wished to be observed. Plainly, that did not mean it was all she
was about. Indeed, if nothing else this story shows us that we have to be aware
and respectful of that old saying, “a book cannot be judged by its cover”, in
this case, its cover or the teaser at the back of the book. What my character
thought was going to be a trashy romance could very easily have turned into his
privet horror show.
