Chapter 15 |
Once everyone had finished and the plates were cleared and everyone sat back and enjoyed their wine the servant that went jogging out of the room came back in carrying a red velvet bag with gold cording tied around it. When Reign saw the servant walk into the room he got up and met him half way and took the bag from him. The servant bowed to Reign and walked out of the room. Reign opened the bag tossed it around gently; nodded and cinched the bag closed and walked over to the doctor. He then put the bag on the table in front of him and smiled “A little encouragement to get someone to look after your practice while you are here.” He said with a smile. Doctor Malleus picked up the bag and gave a wide eyed look at Reign, who just smiled at the doctor again and sat back down in his chair. The Doctor smiled back and quietly tied the bag to his belt.
There was a silence for a few heartbeats and then Elizabeta looked at everyone. “Well then, since that is taken care of.” She said getting up from the table. “I suppose doctor you have some unpacking left to do before the sun rises.” She said. Doctor Malleus nodded. “Yes as a matter of fact I do.” He said. “Would it be too much trouble to have a scribe come to my room?” he asked looking at Reign. “Not at all Doctor.” Elizabeta said. “Good, Good, I already have someone in mind that can run my practice while I am here for six months, I would like to give him note asking him if he would be too kind to do this favor for me.” He said. The Doctor gave a bow to everyone. “I take my leave for the day, and on the morrow Sarah, you and I have something that needs to be done.” Said with another bow and walked out of the dining hall. Elizabeta went over to Sarah. “Do not worry about me; I am able to care for myself in the eve, go and see yourself to bed, you are going to need rest and your strength.” Elizabeta said taking Sarah’s hand. “And do not worry yourself, Doctor Malleus knows the type of tea you are going to be taking and is very aware of how it works.” Elizabeta said with a smile. “Thank you Mistress, this mean a lot to me.” Sarah said with a half curtsy.
After all was said everyone left the dining hall to their respective bedrooms and slept until the sun fell from the sky. During that time another bedroom was made up for Sarah. Basins and plenty of clean towels were brought into the room, and the door adorned with Ginger roots and Juniper bows.
Reign and Elizabeta awoke to an empty room; they sat and drank their morning breakfast, and then got dressed. Reign went to Doctor Malleus’ room and Elizabeta went up to Sarah and Micah’s room. When Reign went into the doctor’s room he found him prepping his instruments and getting ready for evening. Elizabeta found Sarah up and cleaning up their room and Micah just waking up. Sarah turned around when she heard Elizabeta enter the room. “I am just doing some last minute cleaning before I become incapacitated.” Sarah said folding a shirt and stuffing it into a drawer. Elizabeta nodded and smiled. “You are nervous aren’t you?” Elizabeta asked. “Is it that obvious?” Sarah asked. Elizabeta nodded and giggled. “You will be just fine Doctor Malleus will not let anything bad happen to you.” She said giving Sarah a hug.
Micah snorted scaring the two ladies back to reality. “Oh Micah you are terrible.” Elizabeta said giggling, and everyone is the room started laughing. A knock came on the door and Reign poked his head in. “Am I interrupting something?” Reign asked. “Oh, not at all M’Lord.” Sarah said, “Micah was just getting up and I was about to go and meet Doctor Malleus.” She said. “No need my dear, I have come to you.” The doctor said stepping in behind Reign. The five of them stood in the tiny room for a few moments of silence, when it was broken by a knock on the door. “The room is ready M’Lord.” A female servant said. “Thank you Maggie.” Reign said. Everyone looked at each other and then they all left the room so Micah could get dressed.
Sarah, Doctor Malleus, Elizabeta, and Reign walked to the prepared room, there Reign and Elizabeta each took their turns wishing Sarah well and giving her words of encouragement. “In one week you will be just fine, you will be healed enough if not fully healed in time for the ceremony to take place.” Doctor Malleus said. “Besides I am going to be here for the entire thing, I will be the one to help you and Micah get your first meals after you have been changed.” He said opening the door. “Sarah!” a voice came from the stair well. Micah came running down the stairs, “I need to get one loving from my wife.” He said with a smile walking over to Sarah. Sarah smiled at Micah and held out her arms to him. “I love you.” Micah said to Sarah giving her a kiss on the cheek. “I love you too.” Sarah said. “I will be waiting for you.” He said. “I know.” Sarah said. Doctor Malleus put his hand on Sarah’s shoulder. “It is time.” He said gently. Sarah nodded and let go of Micah and walked into the room. “I will keep you all up dated on her progress.” He said looking at Micah. “All should be done by sunrise.” He said with a smile. Everyone nodded and the Doctor closed the door. Muttering could be heard from behind the door.
“I am going to go and check on Sabin.” Elizabeta said. “I need to see if his bandages need to be changed and see how is wound is doing.” She said walking off to the sitting room. Reign put his hand on Micah’s shoulder. “Come my friend, lets you and I go and ride, see where the horses take us.” He said. Micah nodded and looked one last time at the door and he walked off with Reign.
Elizabeta walked into the sitting room and there she found Sabin sitting up. Elizabeta smiled and knelt down next to him. “I see that you are feeling better.” She said, unwrapping the bandages from around Sabin’s neck. She tossed them into the fireplace where they flared to life. Sabin sat down in front of Elizabeta so that she could look over his neck. “The wounds have healed remarkably fast.” She said lightly running her hand over the wounds. Sabin’s tail thumped on the floor. Elizabeta grabbed one of the passing servants and had him go and get some fresh water and a large steak.
Reign and Micah went out into the stables and began saddling up two horses. “Where would you like to go M’Lord?” Micah asked. Reign shrugged, “I don’t know, what some good pubs around here are?” He asked. Micah stopped for a moment and thought. “Well…” he started. “There is the Happy Gander in Gavle.” He said. Reign thought about it for a moment. “Very well then Happy Gander it is.” Reign said getting onto his horse and clicking his tongue. Micah clicked his tongue at his horse and he caught up with Reign.
Everyone went off and did their own thing while Sarah was in her room for the rest of the evening.
